We had one athlete competing on day 2 of the IESA State Track & Field Final, and as a result, we had ANOTHER Oly athlete earning a spot on the podium in East Peoria! Standout athlete Mili Rebbe, shaved 5 seconds off her PR from Sectionals and peaked at just the perfect time to earn 7th in the 800m with a time of 2:29.51! With that, the 7th grade girls placed 12th as a team, which is an incredible accomplishment considering that we only had two girls competing in the division. That's a wrap for the season, and what a season it was!! The future is bright for these kiddos and Oly Track and Field! #SpartanPride

It was a bitter sweet end to the 23/24 track season at IHSA State meet in Charleston yesterday. Even though no one made it out of prelims these girls have had a heck of a season and should be proud of themselves. It was amazing they made it and got to experience State. For those that are back next year I hope it keeps them wanting more and to return to Charleston next year. To the seniors, I wish you all the best as you keep moving towards your new goals!

We may have been few in numbers, but Olympia was well represented on the podium in East Peoria on Day 1 of the IESA State Track and Field Finals. Starting the day, Lucy Prestegaard threw a post season best 9.61m in the shot put, finishing 2nd! Our distance runners came out strong, starting with Mili Rebbe beating her season PR in the 1600m by more than 12 seconds, finishing 5th in a strong 7th grade field with a time of 5:23.58. Shortly after, Mira Kistner finished her middle school track career on an incredibly high note, beating her season PR in the 1600m by more than 15 seconds, finishing 4th with a time of 5:33.25. Ty Gale finished 14th in the 7th grade 1600 meter run, with a time 5:18.55, just a couple seconds off his career best mark that he earned last weekend. Returning to state for a second year in a row, Annaston Piro placed 10th in the 8th grade long jump with a distance of 14'9.75". And last, but not least, let's make some noise for our 2024 State Championship and State Record Holder in the 100 meter Wheelchair Division, Rae Lemons, finishing with a time of 26.99.

The OHS boys' track team continued to make great things happen (including a new school record) in yesterday's 17-team meet at El Paso. The Spartans tallied 83 points for a third place team finish. The team racked up 11 all-time performances throughout the day, including: Corbin Rios (12.22), Nate Conover (12.52), Easton Nowaskie (12.54), and Zach Fry (13.02) in the 100 m dash. In the 200 m dash, Chase Ragar (24.55), Cohen Ellis (27.34), and Adam Post (27.58) all improved their previous personal bests. Cohen Ellis (1:02.07) and Cooper Phillips (43.96) chopped time off in the 400 m dash and the 300 m hurdles respectively, while Blake Youngren added just over a foot (39'10.75") to his previous best toss in the shot put. Senior Keagan Uphoff had arguably one of the best days (if not the best) of his highly decorated high school track career. He took 2nd place in the high jump with a leap of 6'2" and took 1st place in the 110 m hurdles (15.32) and the 300 m hurdles (39.31), with all-time best performances in both events and smashed the 8-year old school record in the 300 m hurdles, which was held by Levi Litwiller at 40.06. Keagan's time in the 300's is ranked #3 in the state in class 2A and only 0.07 seconds behind the state leader. Congratulations Keagan!!! The boys' sectional meet is this Wednesday at Pontiac. Stay tuned folks, we plan to have more great news to share after Wednesday night!

But in the top of the third inning, Emma Books ignited the Spartans offense with a 2-run opposite field home run also scoring Sarah Cross.
